Circumcision is a simple and safe surgical procedure that involves the removal of the foreskin, the retractable skin covering the tip of the penis. At our specialised clinic, we provide expert circumcision services for both babies and boys. Circumcision is a personal decision that many families choose for various reasons. While it is primarily a cultural or religious practice for some, others opt for circumcision due to its potential health benefits. These benefits may include a reduced risk of urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted infections, and certain penile conditions. At CSC, we utilise the Plastibell method, a gentle and highly effective technique for performing circumcisions. This approach involves using a small plastic device that is placed around the glans and safely falls off after a few days. The Plastibell method minimises discomfort and promotes faster healing, ensuring a positive experience for your child.
Following the procedure we will monitor the child for 10-15 minutes to ensure there is no bleeding. In the event of immediate post-operative bleeding, your child’s plastibell circumcision will be converted to a traditional suture method.
Before leaving CSC our nurse will provide you with a jar of betadine. This should be used every day after bathing your child. Bathing should recommence the day after the circumcision and must be done daily to minimise the chance of infection or the plastibell becoming adherent to the child’s skin. The bell is expected to fall off spontaneously any time after the procedure, however we most frequently see it fall off within 4-7 days. A wound check with the GP is recommended after 7 days.
We understand that your child’s well-being is of paramount importance. Like any surgical procedure, circumcision carries some risks (bleeding, infection and damage to local structures), albeit rare. Our clinic takes every precaution to mitigate these risks by maintaining strict adherence to medical guidelines and employing highly skilled professionals.
